Doctoral Forum 2012 - Quantitative Research in Information Science

We are very pleased to announce a Doctoral Forum, specialising in quantitative research in Information Science to be held on 12-13 April 2012 in England at the University of Wolverhampton.

This Doctoral Forum will begin with short introductory presentations by Prof Mike Thelwall and Dr Jonathan Levitt on the application of quantitative methods to Information Science. However, its main emphasis is on the students presenting and receiving feedback on their research and on meeting other doctoral students. Doctoral students who are either using, or considering using, quantitative methods in at least part of their doctoral research are encouraged to apply.

The venue, at the University of Wolverhampton, is located in Wolverhampton City Centre and is very close to Wolverhampton train station. Wolverhampton is a thirty minute train journey from Birmingham International airport. The event finishes on Friday afternoon, enabling participants to see something of England over the weekend; from Wolverhampton, Wales can be reached by train in thirty minutes and London can be reached by train in two hours.

This event, endorsed by the European Chapter of the American Society for Information Science and Technology (ASIST), SIGMETRICS the Metrics SIG of ASIST, and SIGIII the International Information Issues SIG of ASIST, is the first of two events that the European Chapter is endorsing, in celebration of the 75th anniversary of ASIST. The European Chapter is also endorsing Libraries In The Digital Age (LIDA) to be held on 18 – 22 June 2012 in Zadar, Croatia.

This Doctoral Forum is open to all interested parties, including those who don’t present. If you wish to present your research at the Doctoral Forum please submit: a description of your research project and how you are using or are proposing to use quantitative methods (totalling a maximum of 150 words) and key related references. If you wish to attend the event and not present, please submit a description of your relevant experiences and reasons for wanting to attend the conference (totalling a maximum of 150 words).

Submissions need to be emailed to the Conference organiser Dr. Jonathan Levitt and the Program manager Prof. Mike Thelwall by mid-night UK-time on Sunday, February 12, 2012. If you have any queries, please email Dr. Levitt (j.levitt @ lboro.ac.uk) and Mike Thelwall (m.thelwall @ wlv.ac.uk).

The cost of the event is £50 per person, to cover the cost of four coffee/tea refreshment breaks, two sandwich lunch breaks and one buffet dinner. Please email Alison Carminke alison.carminke @ wlv.ac.uk with your name and institution to register and arrange to pay.

Three low price hotels are located within easy walking distance of the venue, MC building, City Campus, University of Wolverhampton. We recommend the Novotel and the Britannia Hotel in the centre of Wolverhampton. LateRooms and Travelodge provide descriptions of other nearby hotels and the option of reserving accommodation.

Building on the success of the six previous Doctoral conferences which each attracted over 100 papers from countries all over the SE European region and beyond, we are pleased to be launching the Call for Papers for the 7th Annual South East European Doctoral Student Conference. The aim of the conference is to further facilitate the exchange of knowledge between young researchers and to consolidate the established network of scholars currently undertaking research in South East Europe. Doctoral students or young researchers in the areas of Business Administration, Economics, Finance, Management, Marketing, Information & Communication Technologies, Psychology, Politics, Sociology as well as Education are invited to attend and present papers related to their doctoral research.

The conference will comprise of:
1. Paper sessions
2. Special workshops/training sessions delivered by distinguished academics
3. Panel discussions
4. Social events

By participating in the 7th SEE Doctoral Student Conference you are given the opportunity to:
· Present your work in a friendly environment and receive valuable feedback from experts in your field
· Further develop your academic and research skills
· Strengthen your network with other PhD students as well as with distinguished academics and professionals in your area
· Apply for the ‘Best Papers’ Award
· Publish your work in the Conference Proceedings
· Publish your work in respectable Academic Journals (selected papers only)

All papers are peer reviewed and authors of submitted papers can have access to the evaluations and possible feedback provided by the reviewers.

Research Squared Conference at Loughborough University on 19th and 20th March 2012

Dear colleagues,

To follow on from our successful Research Squared conferences in 2010 and 2011 we are pleased to announce the third Research Squared Conference at Loughborough University on 19th and 20th March 2012.

The central theme of this year's conference is presentation, dissemination and publication of research findings. The conference spans two days and includes a combination of expert speakers and experiences from PhD students. In addition, there is also a presentation competition complete with prizes.

We warmly invite current PhD students from the fields of Library and Information Science and Computer Science to this doctoral conference. The conference aims to:

· Bring research students in LIS/CS together in a welcoming, entertaining and stimulating environment;
· Provide a comprehensive programme that enhances the understanding of students in LIS/CS regarding presentation, publication and dissemination;
· Offer a platform for research students in LIS/CS students to share their ideas about presentation, publication, and dissemination with fellow researchers via formal and informal channels;
· Help research students in LIS/CS understand how to raise the profile of their work;
· Aid in the processes of becoming skilled and effective communicators of research findings.

The conference is offered at a small charge to delegates – only £35 inc. evening meal.
